Vintage sizing is FUCKED.

Back in the day, fashion was a bit like a wild-fuckin’-west of measurements. Each brand had its own idea of what a “size XL” should be, leading to a delightful (and sometimes frustrating) treasure hunt for the perfect fit. Plus, people were generally smaller in stature, and the hourglass figure was all the rage, so sizes were tailored to those proportions.

And let’s not forget the charm of handmade garments! Many vintage pieces were custom-made or altered by their original owners, adding another layer of uniqueness to the sizing puzzle. So, when you slip into a vintage piece, you’re not just wearing clothes – you’re stepping into a piece of history, quirks and all!

What does that mean for Nanna’s Closet? It means we included measurements in the description of each (chest and length), we don’t pay attention to the tags, and we created a more consistent sizing chart (SEE BELOW!)

To find the best chest/ bust measurement for you, take a fabric tape measure and either 1) wrap it around the fullest part of your chest (pit to pit) and divide it by 2; or 2) measure your favorite sweatshirt pit to pit. Then compare to the chart to see the best size for you!
